Today Dr. Ianessa Humbert gave the first medical SLP grand rounds talk for the Fall 2016 semester. Dr. Humbert’s talk, entitled “What a swallowologist needs: Educating physicians, nurses, administrators, and other medical professionals,” focused on advocacy for the SLP and his/her patients in the medical setting. Audience members included SLHS academic and clinical faculty, doctoral students, 1st and 2nd year master’s students, undergraduates, and even a 1st year AUD student. Participating in the rounds meetings affords faculty and students alike the chance to think critically about various aspects of the SLP scope of practice and patient management in medically-based settings.
