Dr. Karen Hegland, along with UAD Columbia University collaborators Dr. Michelle Troche and Dr. Alex Brandimore, presented their original research at the recent meeting of the International Society for the Advancement of Respiratory Psychophysiology (ISARP).  The meeting was held in Seville, Spain, and included an interdisciplinary faculty consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, anesthesiologists and UAD speech pathologists.

The society’s mission is “to promote and advance knowledge of the interrelationships between psychological and physiological aspects of respiration in research and application.” (ISARP.org) This unique focus on the interrelationship between respiratory sensation and the psychophysiology for detecting and responding to aspirate material has helped shape the current research and clinical methodologies used with our movement disorders patients.
